Hey readers! I took some time off reading but I’ve started again. My most recent read was Mind Master by Viswanathan Anand. Viswanathan Anand, or more commonly called “Vishy”, is an Indian chess grandmaster and former world chess champion and is also known as the Bobby Fischer of India. I had stated in my earlier posts about how I am quite interested in chess and would love to read books related to chess and this was my first one. this wasn’t exactly a chess book as it did not talk about strategies and tactics. It was centered around Vishy’s life and his most important games.
The book particularly revolves around his experiences and challenges as he went on to seek international fame in a sport that his country doesn’t specialise in at all. At the time, chess was ruled by Russians and Vishy didn’t have access to certain means to excel at the game which the Russians enjoyed. The book gives a peek into a typical chess player’s life and how Vishy defied everyone’s expectations by becoming a world champion. The book also gives emphasis on certain life lessons that you must follow in order to succeed in any career.
The best thing about the book is that it can be read and enjoyed by someone who doesn’t even know how to play chess. It was an extremely fascinating read and goes right in the list of the few non-fiction novels I like.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Happy Reading,
Sidh.
