Hey readers! July started off slow as it took me a long week to read Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins as my relatives were visiting. And I’m disappointed as my ordered will not reach me till a few days and I’ll have to remain ‘bookless’ till it arrives 😦 . Anyways, I finally ended The Hunger Games series as I finished reading the third book, Mockingjay. This review contains spoilers from the first two books in the series but not the third book. Enjoy!
At the end of Catching Fire, we’re left with Peeta trapped in the Capitol and Katniss, Finnick and Beetee rescued by District Thirteen. Turns out Katniss’s theory was actually true and Thirteen still exists, but not above ground. Plutarch, Haymitch, President Coin and several others have been planning a rebellion since months but the only missing element was the Mockingjay. The girl who was on fire. The book revolves around Katniss’s journey as she fights the Capitol with everything she’s got to save Peeta. Who will be the victor of these Hunger Games: Katniss or Snow? The fire or the rose?
Mockingjay was not a bad read but it didn’t exactly meet my expectations. It lost the whole aspect of the genre it was supposed to be. Thrilling. Exhilarating. While there were times when the book surprised you but it was pretty tedious and uneventful for the most part. By the third part of the book, we see the urge and desire in both sides to win and that improved the book in a lot of ways. By that point, my interest in the series was rejuvenated and the ending turned out to be a bittersweet. I for one really enjoyed the ending. I think it was one of the wittiest endings I’ve ever read and it satisfied me. Like the other books in the series, this too was pretty fast-paced.
Nevertheless, I feel the book was very crucial to the series and the closure we get after finishing the book is just marvellous. I would recommend everyone to read it.

Hi Riddhi, I’m so glad that you liked my review. And no, I haven’t read the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes because of all the negative reviews it was getting. I wanted to read it but I got dubious after reading those reviews and eventually didn’t feel like reading it.
